This is something new that I have been thinking about trying for a while. I have seen "Five Fact Friday" on other blogs that I follow and thought it was a cute idea. Basically each week I'm going to attempt to post five facts about our family from the week. Pretty simple...we will see if I can keep up with it! It might sound like a bit of a cheesey idea but I know you secretly want to try it too, and you should!! ;)
1. Quinn had a growth spurt this week. I basically nursed all week long. I should just stop here since that pretty much sums up a good portion of my week.
2. I gave our blog a new look. You like it? Since Q was nursing so much, I camped out at home for a couple of days this week and had some time to work on it. I'm officially a blog nerd.
3. Shauna Niequist's new book, "Bread and Wine" comes out soon! My sister and I are a little obsessed with her other books (Bittersweet and Cold Tangerines). I don't even think I have a copy of either anymore because I recommended both books to so many friends and gave them away.
4. McCauley week starts tonight! Now that I have been a McCauley for three years, I think it's safe to say that they like to travel in packs...like packs consisting of 14+ people. It will be fun to hang out with them all week since they are staying nearby! Our friends at church (our only friends down here-hah) are going to be in shock when we show up with all of them on Easter Sunday :)
5. I'm convinced Q likes Target. I have successfully brought Quinn to Target twice now. We tried the mall and I ended up nursing for 30 minutes in the fancy Nieman Marcus bathroom. Not a whole lot of shopping was accomplished. We also tried Old Navy but she started crying the second I started trying on clothes. The lesson here? Always have a goal in mind when shopping with a baby and stick to it! And, Quinn likes Target best. It probably seems familiar to her since I spent so much time there when I was pregnant!
two months

Our sweet pea is two months old! We went to the doctor for her check up and she did great! The shots were obviously no fun but she seemed to make a quick recovery. It was a very sleepy day after the doctor's office!
Weight: 10 lbs. 7 oz. (50th percentile)
Height: 23.1 inches (92nd percentile)...must be the DeHaan genes ;)
*By the way, I mentioned that we had to get her hip checked for Hip Dysplasia and the results came back negative. It was definitely a relief! Thank you for your prayers!
Highlights from this month:
1. BOWS! I have found the perfect accessory for Quinn's hair! I love headbands but they aren't very practical since they fall off constantly. People kept saying that Quinn might lose her hair, but it doesn't seem like its going anywhere!
2. PLAYING! Quinn loves playing on her playmat. She will lay there for up to 15 minutes, kicking her legs and looking at all of the little toys hanging above her.
3. INTERACTING! Quinn loves it when we talk to her and will coo/grunt back at us!
4. SHOPPING! I took Quinn to Target for the first time this week and it was a success! I usually go to Target to get my groceries but have to leave Quinn with Matt, and I always wish that she was with me. It was so nice to bring her along this time! I should also mention that Quinn does not like Old Navy...she started crying in the dressing room so we had to leave. haha I think Matt was pleased with Quinn preventing me from buying more clothes ;)
5. SLEEPING! (KNOCK ON WOOD BEFORE I SAY MORE, BUT...) For the past few weeks Quinn has been doing a great job of sleeping at night. She has been going to bed around 9pm, wakes up once around 4-5am, and then will wake up for the day between 7 and 8am. Lets hope this isn't just a phase and continues!
Now that Q is a little bigger we are looking forward to getting out with her a little more. We are excited to get back to church and I CAN'T WAIT to put her in her little Easter dress very soon!
Family Time
Monday, March 18, 2013
It's that time of year again! Our northern friends/family have been escaping from the cold, snowy weather and trying to catch a break down here in warm, sunny Florida!
Jim, Polly and Tommy came down for a long weekend over their winter break!
Matt's cousins (Jeff, Janna, Marie & John) stopped by for breakfast one morning while they were in town...Quinn was entertaining everyone :)
I had to include this picture...Matt & Amy don't actually qualify as "visitors," but they might as well be family! They came over for dessert one Saturday night with Eden (4 days younger than Quinn)...this is what it looks like to have company over when your babies are only 6/7 weeks old...so blessed to have friends going through a similar season of life!
Oh, and one more picture that doesn't relate to the rest of this post...if you were to walk into my home on any given afternoon, you would likely find this...Beacon at a safe distance (he is on my naughty list lately--any takers?)
DeHaan/Kent/McCauley Family Vacation 2013!
I guess I was technically on vacation this past week, since all I did was go back and forth from my house to the resort where my family was staying!
Papa (aka "Lizard Man") taking a break from playing with the kiddos
Uncle Will was only a few miles down the road for swimming, and was able to hang out for a little while to meet Quinn!
She stared at him very intently :)
Quinn did great poolside...she napped in the stroller and then emerged every once in a while to eat and be cute.
Natalie and Stratton were so great with their cousin Quinn. Natalie even held her like a pro! Strat would make a "shhhhh" sound whenever Quinn would cry. So cute!
I'm telling you, it was a really rough week ;)
The Kents minus Oli...they make vacation so much fun!
Family vacations get more fun every year! Can't wait for the next one!
Mommy/Baby Favorites
Sunday, March 3, 2013
We were definitely overly prepared when it came to getting all of our baby gear. Now that our baby is here, it has been interesting to see what has become the most useful.
1. Car Seat Cover.
I have to give my sister ALL OF THE CREDIT on this one. She brought this cover down when she visited so that we could take Quinn out and keep her covered up to protect her from the sun/germs/bugs/ect (I might be just a little overly protective hah). Kelsey was also able to hook me up through work with some BRICA gear, including their version of a carseat canopy. It's a little more elaborate and I'm looking forward to trying it out.
2. iBabyLog.
There are quite a few versions of this app. I used this like crazy the first few weeks to keep track of Quinn's diapers and nursing. It was really helpful since I was a little overwhelmed and at the end of the day I could look back at a graph showing how many times she had a wet diaper, poopy diaper (including color), and how many times she nursed. This put my mind at ease when I was wondering if I was doing everything right. Now, I just keep track of nursing because I get distracted easily and forget when she last nursed. As you can see from the pic below, there are many other features that are very cool but I have not used!
3. Swaddle
A lot of people use the Aden and Anais blankets but I am a little challenged when it comes to making a good swaddle. We received the SwaddleMe (with velcro..doesn't get easier than that!) and the Miracle Blanket as gifts. The SwaddleMe was super easy to use and wonderful until Quinn started to break out of it a few weeks ago. Now she is in the Miracle Blanket which is a little more complicated but works really well.
Pictures of a sleeping baby never get old!
