My Best Friend's Wedding

Wednesday, June 29, 2011

Hey ya'll! Last weekend we went to a wedding in Little Rock for one of my best buds from Wheaton College. Lindsey was my very first friend at Wheaton. We met at orientation through her cousin and my sister. We hit it off right away and were roomies for two years. Love this girl, and so excited for her and the man of her dreams, Peyton!

Amanda and I arrived a little early and were able to get some time with the bride!

We spent a lot of time with Lindsey's wonderful friends from Little Rock.

bridal luncheon...it felt like a tea party!

I just had to take a picture of this garden...it was too perfect!

Let me break down this delicious dessert for you: 1.) gelato 2.) vanilla cake with lemon custard filling and almond frosting 3.) pistachio macaroon
Well done.

I really enjoyed dancing. It had been too long.

yay!!!

Still dancing. We weren't really ready to leave.

Matt felt that we needed something "Arkansas." So, we bought these delightful souvenirs on our way home.

Congrats, Lindsey and Peyton! So happy for you two! <3

I'm kind of sick of eating cake now...

My cake class ended last week. For the last class we had to make a design for our cake and come prepared to make it. I chose to go with a floral look. Here are some pics below!

Thoughts while sitting in an empty tub...avoiding a tornado (Warning: This is not well edited and I think there are some run-on sentences :)

I often get mixed up and forget the point of life. As a Christian, I can say that I believe that the purpose of my life is to serve the Lord and become more Christlike, and to anticipate eternity with Him. However, I honestly do not do a very good job with remembering this in the small things of day to day life. I get caught up in trying to have everything in my control and look cute while doing it. But, I am never very successful in this attempt. God has been working on me these days and teaching me how to let go. Instead of trying to hold on to everything, I am working on throwing it all into the air and trusting that by God's grace it will all come together. Although, painful at first, as I practice this letting go more and more, I am starting to feel more free and at ease. I like the verse about worrying in Matthew...

Matthew 6:25
For this reason I say to you, do not be worried about your life, as to what you will eat or what you will drink; nor for your body, as to what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? "Look at the birds of the air, that they do not sow, nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not worth much more than they? And who of you by being worried can add a single hour to to his life?

I will probably spend the rest of my life fighting these temptations for perfection and control. Its especially hard to resist these temptations when you look around and believe that lie that everyone else has it together. Its really a silly thing to worry about what others think of you. I should be seeking Christ alone. He is my master. Can I get an amen?!

Father's Day

FYI: I am sitting in my bath tub with Beacon right not because of a tornado warning. SCARY! So, to take my mind off of it, what better thing to do than update my blog!

This past weekend Matt and I were able to spend Father's Day with my family. We enjoyed going through old pictures of our family and hanging them up as decorations for my Dad.

I love my Dad! He is the best :)

Cake

Last week I began a cake decorating class with a friend from small group and her sister in law. I am definitely a rookie but I have already learned a lot! It is fun to let my inner perfectionist go loose for a couple hours...no holding back on this one! It's also nice to be the student again, and not the teacher :)

my first cake

Yummmy! Let me know if you want a cake in the future! I think I found a new hobby!

Oh! And, did I mention....SCHOOL IS OUT! I survived!!!!! (Clearly its summer, since I have time to update my blog and take a cake decorating class...haha)

Wedding Fun

Sunday, June 5, 2011

June has been a busy month so far! This past week was spent compensating for being gone over memorial day weekend and catching up on chores/finishing up school/going on the 8th grade field to trip to 6 Flags/beginning my cake decorating class. Phew! THEN, I left right after school on Friday to drive south with some Wheatonites for Slade and Corrie's wedding. It was a fun weekend spent catching up with friends and celebrating with Slade and Corrie. It was also unusually hot! 97 degrees!! Slade and Corrie looked great and we are so happy for them!

After the ceremony, we had a couple hours before the reception. So, what did we do? Go to Chipotle, of course!

(If you look deep into my eyes in this picture, you can see my agitation/anger with the heat. I do not do well with heat...truly a northern girl!)
