DIY burlap pin board

Wednesday, May 22, 2013

I recently did this DIY project to enhance my mini creative space a couple of weeks ago.  It didn't take a whole lot of skill and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out!

Materials: burlap (fabric store), cork board (craft store, came in a package of four square cork boards), scissors, paint brush, paint, stapler
Cut the burlap so that there is about 1-2 inches of extra fabric to cover the cork board.
Fold each corner tightly onto the cork board and staple.
Once all four corners are stapled, pull the rest of the fabric over tightly and continue to staple it securely to the cork board.
You could really get creative with this step.  I decided to paint light grey stripes accross the boards to match the rest of the decor in our room.  Some other ideas might be to stencil a pattern on the boards, or add some type of fabric to them--like lace.  It just depends on what kind of look you are going for!
I was having fun, so I went ahead and painted an old coffee tin to match, and used it as a pencil holder.
Taaa daa!
Even if you don't end up pinning things to the board, it still looks cute just as wall art.
If you end up doing this project, I would love to see how it turns out!  Please share :)
